Inaugural Ring of Gullion Way Ultra Marathon

Three of our club members lined up for the inaugural Ring of Gullion Ultra marathon on Sunday. The event is organised by ‘WeRunWildNI’ and is aimed at being a self-sufficient and low environmental impact event.
The 64km Ultra event featured runners from throughout Ireland, starting and finishing at the Newry Gateway Club and took in the scenic Ring of Gullion way.
For our three participating members it was a very successful event. First home in club colours was Eamonn Murphy in a time of 6:58:06, very happy with his run and finishing just under 7hrs for the gruelling route, and in 7th place overall.

Despite both Ciaran and Kevin McSherry having never tackled an event beyond the regular marathon distance, both showed great endurance and determination to finish well within the 10hr cut-off time.
Kevin McSherry completed his first ever Ultramarathon in 8:51:00 followed shortly afterwards by Ciaran McSherry in 8:58:00 in his first Ultra attempt.
