Pat Rocks with his NI Masters silver medal at Mary Peters track

Pat takes Silver

On Saturday morning, Pat Rocks headed down to the Mary Peters track in Belfast to participate in two events, in the NI Masters over 65s Track & Field Event, taking on the 800m and 1500m races.

The conditions were breezy, but very warm, with the sun dodging in behind the clouds at times. The first event for Pat was the 800m, where Pat was running with a very high calibre of competitors. Running a very good race, Pat came in fourth position in a time of 2.47.54, but it was in the 1500m event that he really shone. In a very close photo finish, he was just ‘pipped at the post’, as he sun shone through the clouds, for Pat to win the Silver Medal in a time of 5.51.39.

Newry City Runners (members only) 5K race

On a very sunny and warm Sunday morning, 24 NCR members turned out at Greenbank for the NCR Members only 5K race, with all monies raised going to The Samaritans in Newry and Dundalk.

It was evident that all have been putting hard work into their training either at the track sessions or in their own time as all 24 ran a very good race, with a few PBs too.

The first three males home were; Don Travers, Jarlath Farrell and Mark McNulty, with Aine Fegan, Aibhin Fitzpatrick and Attracta Magennis taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the females.
