Mageean Runs Season's Best in 1500m for Fifth at the Monaco Diamond League

Ciara Mageean set a season’s best of 4.02.48 in the 1500m finishing fifth in a world class field at the Monaco Diamond League tonight. The Portaferry women went into the race ranked 11th overall. This time is her fourth fastest time ever over the distance and improves on the previous season best of 4:04.32 she set at the Florence Diamond League. The race was paced to world record time, with Mageean remaining patient and controlling her race before kicking in the last lap to move up in the field from seventh to fifth place. The time also means the Portaferry woman has achieved the automatic qualification (4:04.20) for the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon. Mageean is set to compete in her second Olympic Games in Tokyo after the official athletics team announcement was made this week.
