Dan Murphy R.I.P

St. Brendan's AC would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dan Murphy, Liscahane, Ardfert.
Dan, a previous member of St. Brendan's AC, (1987 - 2000) was an outstanding athlete.
From 1967 - 1971 Dan was no stranger to the Podium. From Kerry Road races to Track and Cross Country,
including Munster and National Cross Country titles were won.
Dan represented Ireland in 1969 at the Junior international Cross Country in Scotland.
In 1970 was again Selected for Ireland, in a junior international in San Sebastian in Spain and brought home Silver.
The Podium titles continued from 1970-1971 including being awarded a scholarship for Washington State University, where e studied and also led his university team to silver Medal in the NCAA Cross Country Championships .
In 1970 Ardfert AC was formed, with Dan being the chairman. On Returning from his studies in the US in 1975, he once again found himself on the to podium representing Ardfert AC in the Kerry 10mile road championship along with other events.
1976 saw Dan retire until he joined ST. Brendan's AC in 1987 where he competed in masters' cross country events for the club. A fine athlete and a true gentleman who will be sadly missed.
