Ellen Treanor (8), former patient at the Children's Cancer Unit, and her big sister Lucy (9) joined James Hagan from Hagan Homes and Jacqueline Wilkinson from the Children's Cancer Unit Charity to launch the 2022 CCUC Stormont Mile in association with Hagan Homes.
Do you think you could ‘run’ Stormont? That’s the challenge being set by the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity, who’s asking runners to help them raise vital funds for families living with childhood cancer in Northern Ireland by taking part in a one mile downhill race at the historical site.
The CCUC Stormont Mile, in association with Hagan Homes, allows participants to run or walk the iconic Prince of Wales Avenue in the shadow of Parliament Buildings on Saturday 1 October.
This unique running event is the only event of its kind where participants complete just one mile downhill against competitors of the same level and speed. This means runners of all abilities - both competitive or those who just like a quick exercise - can take part in different races according to their own ability.
The also includes the CCUC Stormont Mile Family Walk, for families or those who like to take it a little bit easier, as well as other fun activities for the kids.
Speaking at the launch, Jacqueline Wilkinson from the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity said:
“We are thrilled to be launching the 2022 CCUC Stormont Mile, and bringing runners and walkers of all ages and abilities back to the Stormont Estate to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Unit. Charities like ours rely on the generous contributions of organisations and the public to deliver our services and support children and families, so the funds raised from this event will go directly to helping children with cancer.”
James Hagan, Founder and Chairman of Hagan Homes, who are the event’s main sponsor added: “We are delighted to support this event which provides funding to families facing the terrifying journey of a child’s cancer diagnosis. We can only imagine how hard that must be for any family, so are delighted to lend our support to the CCUC Stormont Mile to help support children and families affected by childhood cancer.”
The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity exists to support the work of the medical team and staff at the Children’s Haematology and Oncology Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, as well as families who are impacted across Northern Ireland.
